When a plumbing leak went unnoticed, moisture worked its way into this customer’s wood floor. As the timber absorbed the water it expanded beyond its natural movement gap, leaving the boards lifted and buckled. Faced with a floor that looked ruined, the owners feared a full and costly replacement, but there was a better way.
We first let the floor dry out naturally with the help of a dehumidifier, over roughly four weeks, and only began work once the moisture readings had stabilised. Repairing a floor that’s still moving simply stores up the same problem for later.
Once the floor was stable, we carefully lifted out the damaged section and fitted replacement boards, bonded with a high-quality polyurethane adhesive. Where boards had lifted but the whole floor didn’t need taking up, we used a specialist epoxy resin injection to re-bond the timber securely back to the subfloor, a far less invasive fix. Finally, we sanded and refinished the floor, blending the new work into the old for an almost seamless result.
