We need a clear room wherever possible. The more that's moved out, the better the finish and the quicker the job. We'll advise on the best approach when we visit, and can help move larger items where we can as part of the service.

A typical room takes one to two days for a full sand and finish, plus a short curing time. Larger areas or floors needing repairs can take a little longer. You won't be without the room the whole time though. Once the finish is down, light foot traffic is usually possible soon after, with furniture and full use following on once it's had time to cure. We'll talk you through the expected timings when we provide the quote and when you can start using the room again on the day.

Far less than you'd expect. Our dust-free sanding system captures up to 98% of airborne dust at the source, so there's no fine layer drifting through your home.

Usually, yes. Because we sand dust-free and finish with low-odour, low-VOC waterborne products, most customers carry on living at home throughout. Do bear in mind that sanding and restoration can be noisy at times, so if you're working from home or on video calls it may interrupt you. We'll also flag any room that's best left alone while a finish cures.

Solid wood, engineered wood with enough hardwood depth to sand, parquet and most reclaimed floors. If you're unsure, we'll tell you honestly at the visit whether yours can be saved.

Yes, but it should be engineered wood rather than solid, as it copes far better with the heat of underfloor heating and helps prevent warping and gaps. We can fit flooring over a prepared subfloor with underfloor heating in place, but we don't install the heating system itself. We're happy to advise on the best approach for your floor.

Light foot traffic is usually fine fairly soon after the finish goes down, with furniture and full use following on after the finish has had time to cure, depending on the type of finish used. We'll give you the exact timings on the day so you know what to expect.

Yes. We replace damaged or missing boards, fill gaps and splits, and secure loose or squeaky boards, often on the same visit as the sanding.

Not often. A solid wood floor can typically be sanded five or six times over its lifetime, and with the right care between visits it will be many years before it needs doing again.

It is one of the more sustainable things you can do with a wooden floor. Restoring the floor you already have avoids the materials, manufacturing and waste of a brand-new one. We also typically finish our floors with water-based products, which are low-VOC and solvent-free for indoor air quality.
